East Village - downtown night out part 2
West Village is definitively more of my scene. Since moving to New York, I have grown to love the black-on-black hipster-ish dressed crown and the bars each one of whom believes that the have the most innovative drink menu in town. I also love the dimmed windows and fairly lights, and guys wearing amazing cologne. If I were to choose, I would choose a night in West Village 9.5/10 of the time ... however for the 0.5 times ... Here we go!!
So East Village is much more "drunken college fun" -> you will not find here classy cocktail bars, however if you are looking for the 23-26 year old crowd of guys who would fit the description of "you can take a bro out of college, but you will not take college out of a bro" this is the place to go. I would also say that East Village has a strong Berlin - "alternative" flavor.
And so my recommendations:
Corner of Ludlow Street and Delancey Street
Bunch of bars and dancy places - when you start here it is close to walk to all coolest East Village spots : )
One on One
Ok-priced drinks upstairs and fun music + dancing downstairs. Starts attracting a crowd early in the night. Probably not a place where you will spend your whole night but a nice start to your East Village night to get your in the right mood
Big pro: the dance + bar area is on a roof top, which means amazing views
It is also a restaurant but I've only know it as a fun bar. There is definitively dancing but the area is not huge. Verdict: worth stoping by.
The DL is a place in East Village that I actually liked. On the bottom floor is a lounge with chandeliers and antique mirrors - but it is usually rather empty, on the first floor there is a small, dark, grouchy dancefloor, but..... on the top floor there is an awesome beach garden like (think greenery and palm trees) club with cool music and usually a cool group of people. Definitively recommend !
Pianos is included on this list because everyone know about it and everyone goes and ... no one really like this that much. It is one and a half floors of dancing. Why one and a half? Well there is "one," a floor which has a DJ, who usually plays sexy, sensual tunes and the "half" which is a top floor with a bar and some dancing usually occupied by a "gangsta hood" kind of a crowd
Opposite to what one might expect, No fun is actually fun.
The problem with it is that: it is tiny - literally the dance floor is teeny-tiny but the music is good and the crowd is cool. : )
Have fun guys!
