I stumbled upon Porteno restaurant in Chelsea while needing to ease my nerves after 4 hours at New York's DMV. (...)
The restaurant is tiny - I think it only sits 20 people but it is the hidden gem of pasta.
Their Carbonara Porteno is one of the best spaghetti I have ever eaten. No exaggeration. There are few great things about this dish: 1. it is delicious. 2. it is with shrimp - and it is actually with a sizable portion of shrimp, intermingled all throughout the spaghetti and not just five shrimps on top of a bowl of pasta, like some restaurants serve their dishes. 3. it has asparagus, mushrooms, panacotta and delicious sos and finally: 4. it is not ridiculously expensive.
