It's Christmas time in the City!
It's that time of the year again! Christmas! Now that December finally fell upon us, there is nothing stoping me from going all out "Christmas" ! :) It's being my favorite holiday.... and the most wonderful time of the year ;) I thought I would share you guys few of my favourite New York City at Christmas attractions :)
1. Ice Skating.
Every romantic comedy set in New York during Christmas features a scene of the couple holding hands while balancing on ice. And there is a good reason for it because New York does know how to make its ice skating right, and so there are 3 most iconic spots
- The Rink at Rockefeller Center. This might be the most iconic of the three -> with a gigantic Christmas Tree (seriously - where do they grow those?!) and virtually every TV report from New York during December set there, it is a NYC classic. And yes, it might be a bit cheesy, but there is nothing wrong with that! :)
- Wollman Rink in Central Park. Again a classic rom com scene. :) Big pluses: amazing view on Central Park surrounding skyscrapers and definitively more space than at the Rockefeller rink.
- Bryant Park: the ice rink is part of the Bryant Park Winter Village ...
2. Christmas Markets/Fairs
There is SO many Christmas fairs around the city: at the Grand Central Station, by the Upper East corner of Central Park, but the one that consistently takes the best spot in my book is the Bryant Park Winter Village -> the lights, the music, the hot apple cider and the smell of roasting chestnuts will transport you into a real life Winter Wonderland. They have shops, hand made christmas decorations, an ice rink, food counters and the greatest festive atmosphere. (Plus on chosen days they show holiday's classics like Elf or Miracle on 34th Street) 100% worth the trip!! :)
3. Shop windows & 5th Ave
Walking along 5th Ave on a December evening is the quintessential NYC experience: there are Christmas hits sounding from every store, there is at least 1,000,000 light up decorations and ... the shop windows
Starting Thanksgiving weekend, Manhattan's department stores outdo one another in terms of their window decorations. It its truly an art show on its own: from Sleeping Beauty of Saks Fifth Avenue, through Dancing Ducks in Lord & Taylor, and ending at Ice Skaters in Macy's - the windows are an attraction in their own right.
Radio City Music Hall Rockets => their Christmas Spectacular is a magic show in its own right. :)
I describe it in more detail in one of my previous posts!
