Koi restaurant - Sushi Gem, NYC
I have recently discovered an amazing sushi place. (Ok, I will come clean: as "discovery method" I might or might now have typed in something along the lines of "Sushi restaurants NYC where Taylor Swift was spotted" -> I mean, the girl is one of the biggest Popstars on the planet... she must know good food place in the city. ;) )
Tip 1: make a reservation: it was full even on Monday night!
Tip 2: awesome to go there in winter - it is right across Bryant Park's Winter Village (see one of tmy recent posts on things to do in NYC in winter for more detail on that) so you can go there and burn off your calories ice skating after a delicious meal
Tip 3: no matter what you do ... get a dessert! Their desserts are one of the greatest (and most delicious) things on the planet
Back to my actual experience: ;)
when I walked in I was stunned by how modern yet chick the restaurant is: it has 3 sort of levels - by that I mean: a small area on the first floor, with few tables by the window, a main dining floor which is on an open balcony, few steps above the ground and a balcony on top of the main balcony - with new tables and a sushi bar.
Hous special is sticky fried rice with a choice of avocado, spicy tuna and yellowtail toppings. I ordered the tuna and avocado set. If I were you, I would definitively try them on my first visit: they have a very i retesting taste: a combination bwteeen sweet and spicy. However, going forward I will stick to their delicious sushi specials.
Worth pointing out regarding the sushi specials: yes, they are quite pricy but portions are quite sizable -> my double spicy tuna roll came with 8 pieces... which were so large that the roll could have been easily cut into 12.
Finally, surprise of the night was going to the restroom. (Yes, I know it sounds weird, haha - just read on ;) ) It turns out that downstairs, by the restrooms, there is a night lounge. :D So if after indulging in delicious Japanese food and an amazing desser, you want to continue the night the perfect pre game spot is just a staircase away. Literally. ;)
Happy eating! :)
