Phoenix & Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon is breathtaking - yes, it really is. I would especially recommend going there in the spring when there is still snow on the top of the canyon but the temperature in the inner trails is much warmer. This makes for an amazing view.
On a different note: who knew that Phoenix is a resort town? I certainly didn't before arriving at the Marriott Desert Ridge Hotel and Spa resort last weekend. It turns out that at in the middle of a gloomy New York fall, (~though hot teas, long boots and crimson sweaters are awesome ;)~) Phoenix proves itself to be a perfect weekend getaway. Why?
1. The whether is fantastic: In October, it is just enough sunny (high 80s) to absorb the sun by the hotel pool. Also with low humidity, you don't feel like you have taken a sweaty shower as soon as you move away from air-conditions (and yes - my hair was very thankful ;) )
2. The terrain: The Sun-covered valley, in which Phoenix finds itself, lends itself to the outdoorsy types with its many desert-hikes, ranging from tough, to just a few hour exploration of a easy high in the McDowell Mountains.
3. Price: Especially off-season, the resorts are relatively reasonably priced! - and definitively much better than Florida, California, Dominican Republic, Cancun or the like.
Let me know if you ever venture in to Phoenix!
